Take the worry out of finding your horse a new home

Horses4Homes, a not for profit, online facility, matching horses with new loanees, owners and sharers launched last month. Tylers CT Rider Winter Show Jumping Championships 2012

The Championships were held on 10th March 2012 at Patchetts EC. It was a great day with full classes and the excitement peaked at the end of the day in the AmTrust Equine Insurance Puissance!

Would you like to visit Nick Skelton's yard and meet his top horses?

Saddle Up for Spinal Research are inviting riders to run a fundraising event for them. The event can be anything from a showing show or dressage competition to an equine car boot sale or sponsored ride. The event organiser that raises the most awareness for the charity or is the most creative with their fundraising will be invited (with a friend) to visit Nick Skelton's yard and have a professional photograph taken with his two top potential Olympic horses Carlo and Big Star.

You will need to run your event and send in the money raised by 29th June 2012. To request a fundraising pack and entry form call Isabel Long on 01483 898786 or email Isabel@spinal-research.org.

The oldest horse in the world?

This is Shayne - he's 51 years old and could be the oldest horse in the world! Shayne lives at the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Brentwood, Essex. The eldest horse ever recorded was 62!

Read more about Shayne in our April issue.

Everyone here in the CTR office was so shocked and saddened to hear that CTR regular Pat Perkins’ lovely coloured horse Jasper passed away last week (21st February).

It was a freak accident; Jasper jumped from his field and fractured his pelvis. The bone went into an artery and he died on landing. Pat said, “I am absolutely devastated as he really was my life… he has always done so well for me and we were a real partnership.” Our thoughts are with her at this very sad time.

The Royal Veterinary College is recruiting ponies to a study which will examine the ability of a test to predict whether a pony is at risk of getting laminitis when they have not had it previously. Ideally they need owners/yards that have 5 or more ponies who are >7 years old and have not had laminitis before. Participating ponies will get a free health MOT.

Fascinating News from the Archive!

Did you know that Henriette Andersen's ride Louis D'Or (as featured in our Dressage series each month) won the CTR Novice Championships back in 2002 with his owner Paula Potter? Look at him now with Henriette! Anna Ross Davies was the bearer of this fascinating news. As it was, she came 5th with Orient B and Felicity Wells came = 7th with Class Performance. We are delighted that so many top horses and riders have come up through our own dressage championships.
